Ruel states, “A lot of things have changed since my last EP. I’ve been given a lot of pretty amazing opportunities and had some crazy experiences. For this EP, I went into the writing room with a bit more life experience and a clearer creative direction on how I approached the songs. These songs are the most personal tracks I’ve put out to date, and I really feel like I discovered a specific sound for this project. I’m super proud with how it turned out, and I hope you guys like it too.”

Executively produced by long-time collaborator and GRAMMY® Award-winning M-Phazes, Free Time is a seven-track collection that features hit singles like “Painkiller”, “Face to Face”, and “Real Thing”. It’s a must-listen for any music lover.

From ARIA awards to Coachella and now a sophisticated second EP, Ruel is riding a rollercoaster that’s only going up.

The 16-year-old pop prodigy has been teasing cuts from Free Time every few months this year, including ‘Painkiller,’ ‘Face To Face’ and the most recent ‘Real Thing,’ with today revealing the other four tracks.

Straight off the bat, Ruel opens with a song that flexes his intricate sense of rhythm and ability to be relaxed while still oh so polished. His angelic falsetto singing “boys don’t cry” is a piercing reminder of the young talent’s range, something that’s explored more as the release goes on.

Long time collaborator, friend and Like A Version star M-Phazes works his magic on production across all seven tracks, creating a bold sonic world where melodies soar and string sections are a pluckin’.

You may want to have tissues handy because ‘Hard Sometimes’ is where Ruel gets vulnerable, admitting 'I try to be happy/but it’s hard sometimes' in a stripped back piano-driven confession. The ballad is easily a standout on the EP amongst his usual soulful pop bops, highlighting how powerful his vocal chops really are.

‘Unsaid’ unfolds into another heartfelt moment, this time tinged with R&B sensibilities, before rounding out with euphoric title track ‘Free Time.’ Ruel skyrockets with personal moments in this release, so hang out for the voicemail sample in the final moments.

Free Time is the second EP from the young gun and really is just another feather to add to his overflowing cap.

Back in April, Ruel found himself in a pretty surreal situation where he joined Childish Gambino and Chance The Rapper at Kanye’s Coachella Sunday Service.

He also became the youngest solo ARIA award winner last year, nabbing the Breakthrough Artist award for ‘Dazed and Confused.’

Catch Free Time on the road next week as Ruel kicks off his Australian tour.
